Dr. Pia Kontos Delivers Annual Creamer Lecture on Dancing and Dementia

Dr. Pia Kontos will speak about using dance as a tool to support people living with dementia as part of the Dr. T. LeRoy Creamer Memorial Lecture in Gerontology on Monday, October 19 in the Kinsella Auditorium.

 

Dr. Kontos recently produced a documentary film called, “Dancer Not Dementia”, which has received critical acclaim. During her talk at Ðǿմ«Ã½, entitled, “Using Documentary Film to Challenge Dementia-Related Stigma and Support Creativity Through Dance,” she will show the 20-minute documentary and then lecture on how her research on dance as a tool for supporting persons living with dementia has had an incredible impact.  

 

Dr. Pia Kontos is a Senior Scientist at KITE and Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Her interdisciplinary and community-oriented research focuses on the development of theories, arts-based and digital knowledge innovations, and policies to reduce stigma-related inequities associated with dementia and to foster relational caring in community and long-term care settings. Her work advocates for the active inclusion of people living with dementia and carers in research, knowledge translation, and practice initiatives.
