Health

 

There are many opportunities for liberal arts students to pursue a career in health. Whether you study one of our health-related majors like Gerontology or Psychology, or have a passion for supporting health-related causes using skills developed during your undergrad like advocacy, communication, organization, or leadership, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ offers plenty of options to gain relevant experience for a career in health.

 

Academics

Take courses from Gerontology, Human Rights, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s Studies and Gender Studies, and more.

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ is home to research centres focused on health such as The Third Age Centre, which host events throughout the year to supplement in-class learning. Health related research by ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ faculty is also an area of opportunity—become a research assistant to get hands on experience of your own.

Clubs

Departmental clubs like the Gerontology Society are a great way to complement your learning. The ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Mental Health Society, Global Brigades, and other health-related clubs are also a good way to work on positive health initiatives.

 

Experiential Learning

Internships with health care organizations, long-term care facilities, and local shelters are a great way to add professional health care experience to your resume, and ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ has many relevant partnerships in Fredericton. On-campus volunteer and work opportunities are also a fantastic way to start working with people—try the Peer Mentoring Centre or Campus Health Coaching Office to start.

Look for organizations in Fredericton to volunteer with. Graduates who pursued careers in health previously interned or worked with organizations including AIDS New Brunswick, Hospice Fredericton, New Brunswick Lung Association, and York Care Centre.
